Things to Do

South Korea is a modern country in which you will generally be able to take part in all of the activities that exist in your home country.

You’ll notice when you first arrive to Korea that Koreans are very fond of technology. The littlest children often own cell phones. It’s common to see people watch TV programs while riding the bus or subway. Also, PC “bangs” -- or PC game rooms –are especially popular in the country.

When it comes to television and movies, the typical cable package usually includes at least a few movie channels in English. Korea also has 24-hour news channels in English (such as CNN). American blockbusters are screened in English with Korean subtitles.

There’s lots of shopping in Korea. If you enjoy fashion, Korea is a great place to find nice clothing and shoes at cheaper prices than typically found in other countries. Koreans consider themselves to be very fashionable.

Koreans enjoy heading to bars and “hofs” (restaurant/bar) in the evenings and weekends. It’s easy to have gatherings with friends to relax almost anywhere in Korea. Of course there are many more options if you live close to an urban area. In Korea, there are many bars and discos that play all kinds of music.

Korea has lots of nature to explore. There are numerous mountains, forests and beaches in the country. Foreigners typically enjoy hiking up large hills and mountains. Beaches are also popular during the summer and special events. Keep in mind that Korea is a relatively small country, so even if you do not live near the beach, it’s still a quick and easy train ride away.

For the most part, Koreans your age probably enjoy doing the same things that you do.
