Korean Language

The Korean language is called Hangul, which is spoken both in South and North Korea along with other locations around the world in which there is a sizable Korean population. To live in Korea, it is not necessary to know how to speak Korean. Generally speaking, Koreans typically know enough English to allow you to get by in daily life. There are thousands of westerners happily living in Korea with minimal Korean language ability. English is well integrated in the public transportation; especially in the subway systems. ATMs and banks can adequately service you in English.

It is useful to learn how to read Korean characters before coming to Korea. Koreans have adopted many English loan words, and knowing how to read can make your experience easier in simple ways. The writing system is easy to learn, and can be memorized in one afternoon. While in Korea, you will naturally pick up new words and phrases. Often you’ll find that students enjoy watching a foreigner use Korean! A Telly English representative can provide you with resources.
